Pinterest. How do you even say that? That’s what I first thought when I heard of this new social media site about 7 years ago. Pinterest was started in 2010 and quickly grew. It is a visual interest social media giant. In it, you create boards that can be named and categorized. For example, you can create a recipe board or fashion board or a seasonal board. The opportunities are endless.
So for a business, is it worth it?
Let’s look at some numbers. According to Saige Driver, “More than 87 percent of Pinterest users have bought a product because of the site….Most of the 175 million active U.S. Pinterest members are female (81 percent). Some 2 million of those members save content to a shopping board on a daily basis.” These are very impressive numbers to say the least. With this amount of activity, and its emphasis on shopping and products, a business should most certainly look into Pinterest as a part of their marketing mix.
It’s easy to create a business account and set up a profile. Then create some boards and pins and start following other users and engaging with them. Remember that Pinterest is a visual platform so it’s important to post visually pleasing content that will attract users. Pins should grab the audience’s attention and make them want to learn more as well as engage with you.
Pinterest’s analytics are extremely important. Going over the content posted using their analytics tools can provide valuable insights. For example, you can track impressions, engagements, link clicks, views, saves, just to name a few. You can analyze what content received the most feedback through things such as likes and clicks and you can see what didn’t perform as well and therefore make changes. You can filter by source, content type or date to help you as you analyze the content posted. As you filter the data, your top Pins for that selected filter will show. The Pinterest help page explains “Top Pins are the Pins, either organic or paid, that people have viewed or engaged with most. Scroll down on the Analytics page to view your top Pins.”
Using Pinterest’s analytics is a valuable resource when looking at how well Pinterest is working for your business and it’s just plain fun to use!
